This Weekend at Cirencester

Dear All,

The Cheltenham Cup FinalGiven the recent heavy rainfall creating unfaithful ground conditions the Cheltenham Cup final got off to a slow start with no goals being scored in the first chukka as players from both teams were playing cautiously. The game didn’t continue as it started though and from the second chukka onwards, both teams were level pegging, desperate for a win. Foxcote were the first to be awarded a penalty, and with Jacinto Crotto on board they were set off the mark, 1 – 0. Tayto managed to grab a hold of the ball from the line out but Tom Beim was there to increase Foxcote’s lead to 2 – 0 by running ¾ of the field to score another. Tayto were on the comeback and Stephen Hutchinson skilfully passed around Jacinto to score with a great neck shot, 2 – 1. Soon before half time, Tayto were still in control and Mikey Henderson scored another quick goal just before the second bell to leave the teams level, 2 – 2.Despite the gale force winds and heavy rainfall, it was a fantastic game of 12 goal polo. Click here for a full match report.
The Kingscote Cup FinalIn pouring rain and extremely trying conditions, Senzaltro held their cool and came out victorious, beating Tayto 4 – 3 to take the Kingscote Cup Victor Ludorum 6 Goal. Reaching the final was a feat in itself with 12 of the country’s best 6 goal teams battling hard throughout the league stages with countless extra chukka games and many close score-lines. The semi-finals also experienced the lack of Indian Summer weather out on Aston Down, with both finalists winning their place in the final by just one goal in extra time. The heavens opened above Ivy Lodge just on cue for the 3pm start of The Kingscote Cup Final, but with thunder to boot the show went on and those who braved the weather were not disappointed.Max Hutchinson won Most Valuable Player and Maizdulce went on to beat Sefton Lodge Racing to take the subsidiary Vale Bowl. Earlier in the day Los Chinos beat Noon Giraffe to claim the Owl Trophy. For a full match report on The Kingscote Cup Final, click here.
The Academy Tournament sponsored by Lipogems EquineCongratulations to Hascombe Stud who beat Bluestone Insurance in the last academy tournament of the 2017 season, winning 9 - 4. Yet again, the popularity of academy tournaments are growing rapidly and the six teams did not disappoint us with some fantastic and high-scoring matches last Saturday and Sunday. Our 2017 academy tournaments have been a great success, and we hope to see more teams and new members having a go next season!
