This Weekend

As always at HPC, The London Polo Club we have a busy weekend of polo planned. Saturday morning starts with another Peggy Healy Trophy match at 10:00am. On Sunday the headline match is the Ventura Pauly Trophy, another stunning piece of silverware for the teams to play for. The last match of the day will be the Candilio Cup sponsored by Stepien Lake LLP. We look forward to seeing you at the club for another great day of polo.

Last Week at HPC

Roehampton Cup Final Sponsored by London Square

After some epic encounters in the group stages of the tournament the HPC team Jet Set patroned by Katharine Smithwick made it to the final of this year's Roehampton Cup to take on Maize Dulce. Both teams had put in a hard graft to make it through the previous two weeks and into the final. The Jet Set team featured a last minute substitution in the form of Temur Nadeem.

Into the match Jet Set were setting the pace with an unanswered first chukka. Heading into the second half Maiz Dulce performed a fantastic comeback levelling the scores. Jet Set saved their best chukka of the tournament for the last with an excellent shift from HPC's Juan Cruz Araya Martelli who slotted the deciding goals to take the 2017 Roehampton Cup.

Roehampton Cup Subsidiary Final

In the Subsidiary Final were Spire London and Ojo Caliente. Both teams were unfortunate to have not reached the final. The Spire London team featured some familiar players to the club with professional Martin Roman having been a long time player at HPC and Patron Duncan Qiu having learnt to play at the club as well. In the match it was hard to separate either team with end to end polo. It all came down to a lapse from Spire London in the final seconds of the game that gave Ojo Caliente the 60 yard penalty. Ojo Caliente took their opportunity converting the penalty for the win.

Fergus Homes vs Hollywood

Finally after an epic day of polo in the sun HPC players took to the number one ground for a friendly match between Fergus Homes and Hollywood. Hollywood won the game with a slim lead over their opposition after a great game of polo.

Polo Pony Show

The Bank Holiday Monday morning Polo Pony Show was a huge success with a healthy number of entries in both classes. The winner in the lightweight section was La Perla ridden by Pablo Marin and owned by Garrie Renucci. The winner in the heavyweight class was Da Vinci ridden by Benjie Davis. The overall winner was then decided to be Da Vinci. Many thanks go to the visiting judge Pepe Araya a former eight goal player and one of the top breeders in Argentina. He was ably assisted by his son Jose Ramon who is a regular player in the UK high goal.
